About our Team

Katrina Patel

Environmental Educator

Katrina founded Project WIN in 2006 with the idea that people can collaborate to learn about sustainability and enjoy winning cool prizes from corporations who want to incentivise this initiative. Her background includes responding to catastrophic hazardous material spills on behalf of carriers and their insurance companies. She has been an integral part of developing emerging technology that actually cleans these messes using bacteria or amendments instead of putting them in landfills for future generations to deal with.

Nadine Guenther

Elementary Principal

Nadine has been teaching children for over 35 years. Her experience as a life guard and camp councillor built her foundation towards excelling into being a principal for the Edmonton Catholic School Board. She is Katrina's sister where her background in both science and education has been a huge support in helping provide direction on what educational content is important to people and how to work with a variety of learning styles.

Troy Vassos

Ph.D Environmental Engineering

Troy has over 40 years of experience specializing in municipal, agricultural, industrial and resource sustainable integrated water resource management. He is an expert in developing sustainable processes such as water conservation, rainwater harvesting, resource recovery, renewable energy, public health assessments and environmental forensics (just to name a few). Troy offers mentorship to Katrina and Project WIN by his expert knowledge in student research and international grant-funding. He has also been a sound board for some of her contaminated sites work.
